romantic Gifts Are Overrated - Here Are 7 Ways To Avoid Giving Them

67% of gifts are forgotten shortly after they are given. No that's not an official statistic. But I do believe that following these 7 strategies, you can make sure that none of your gifts are remembered.

Here are seven things you can do to make sure your partner is always left wanting more from your gift-giving!

1. Leave The Creativity To The Artists!

Creativity in gift-giving is over-rated. The only reason to be creative is if you want it to be special and that's clearly not our goal here. The brain is a funny thing, it tends to hold on to things that are unique. It does this by attaching emotions to memories.

When you choose a creative gift you run this risk of activating all kinds of troublesome positive emotions! Things like surprise, happiness, joy, & worst of all excitement!

2. Plans Are For Suckers!

Having a plan makes a gift more memorable and that's to be avoided at all costs. When you go to make the purchase, just walk in and pick up the first thing that strikes your fancy. Who cares whether its something she will actually use or not. After all, they don't say "it's the thoughts that count", they say it's the "thought" - singular.

In general, it's best to do as little thinking as possible when giving gifts.

3. Gifts Don't Tell Stories, Storytellers should...

Our brains are wired to remember stories. For centuries before the invention of the written word, storytellers would memorize every detail of the tribes history in the form of a story. These stories would be passed along from generation to generation, preserving the cultural heritage of the group.

So it's obvious that giving gifts that tell stories should be avoided at all costs if one wants to avoid making a lasting impression on someone you love. The last thing you want is for your partner to go around sharing the story with other people.
